Where are those roots which gave
the humanity such artists as
Vasiliy Kandinsky, Kazimir Malevich and Michael Smorczewski?
Vasiliy Kandinsky descends from the family of
Nerchin merchants, state convicts descendants.
His great grandmother was a Turgunsk princess
and his father came from the ancient trans-Baikal (Kyahta)
Kandinsky family which originally came
from princes of Kandinsky princedom.
Kazimir Malevich – a Pole, his father,
Severin Malevich was a nobleman of the ancient family
in Volinskaya province, Gitomirskiy uyezd.
His mother's name was Ludovika Galinovskaya.
Michael Smorczewski – was born in the family
which had had royal backgrounds
of The Great King Knud,
princes of Lorraine, princes of Warsha's Bohemia,
Polish gentry and of prominent Russian portraitist
Oreast Adamovich Kiprensky(Dyszlewski).
Orest took his second name from village Kopor'e
(Leningradskaya region, Lomonosovsky district),
the place where he was christened and then
he changed it for a made-up second name – Kiprensky.
Viktor Petor gippolit gerba "Rawicz" Smorczewski (1838–1900),
being a 2d year student in Kiev University,
the great-great-grandfather of the artist
was exiled to convict prison in Irkutsk (Siberia, Russia)
for 10 years for participation in
polish national liberation riot in 1863.
Artist Misha Smorchevsky`s capsule biography.
М. Smorchevsky was born in Moscow on the 27 of April.
Being a twoyear child he lost his parents
who were killed by NKVD people.
It was because Smorchevsky`s family had during
the Second World War saved more than 200 Jews
from Nazi concentration camps in Poland.
Misha was brought up in the orphanage,
situated in front of Surikov`s Institute
in Tovarishchesky side street in Moscow.
Being a monitor, Misha filed gratings in the changing room
and went outside to gaze at the models
who basked nude on the window sills of the Institute.
Then he started attending classes of this Institute.
In 1972 the orphanage was closed because
it was simply robbed by the directors and economic workers.
The rest of the foster children, 100 people,
were allocated to Moscow boarding schools.
This is how in the 7 form Misha studied
at school situated on Tekstil`shchiki metro station,
there he was to finish his 7th and 8th forms.
These years were a real hell for him.
There were natural hoodlums among his classmates,
who did their best to put the child down.
He stood this test. His support was his grandmother,
who took him home for weekends.
The brightest pupils were sent to another
boarding school № 59 to get senior secondary education.
This is how from 1974 till 1976 Misha for the first time
studied in the institution worth studying in.
Nobody bullied him there as it had been,
nobody starved him as it had been in the orphanage.
He got a good knowledge in Mathematics, Literature and Chemistry.
Misha has liked History the most.
He wondered why it had been necessary to make revolution,
break synagogues, temples, churches, mosques.
Whose interests were satisfied when Russian
Empire was broken and USSR was created?
Why in such a big and reach country people are so poor and unhappy?
At the age of 7 Misha began his working life.
He worked at a book factory, where his job
was to pile paper of seven colours.
They payed him10 kopecs for 100 piles.
But the money was taken by the directors of the orphanage.
He got his first earning at 13 years.
It was at a hosiery factory on Sokol`niki metro station,
the factory still exists.
Thanks to Misha`s diligence, assiduity
and patience he got the job in the USSR power administration.
Misha worked as economist with government statistics.
His career seemed to be quite promising.
But desire to paint changed his future.
There is nobody to forget long lines at Stariy Arbat in Moscow,
long lines to a single painter who painted
in red, yellow and blue gouache.
This painterwas Misha Smorchevsky.
50 kopecs for a picture.
But the picture that celebrated Misha all out of doors
is the one called "Perestroyka`s water of life"
and a tablet "5 kopecs for lookup".
Gorbachev was depicted at the picture.
Misha was brought to court because he dared
to criticize the leader of the Soviet communists.
Misha`s work was for long years interposed
by forced emigration to the USA, studying at the University,
coming back to Russia, being a hostage of armed bandits in 1995,
grandmother`s death and lawsuit for hearth and home.
Misha had not paint for 12 years.
Though it did not break a true master.
The years he had spent on the creation
of the first in history of Moscow and Russia
the American Art Museum of Russia became crucial for his life.
The artist`s selfesteem crept back and he resumed painting.
